How basket returns are derived
CoinMarketCap publishes trailing percentage changes per asset rather than a full price history on its public tier. Basket returns are therefore built from those trailing returns: the capped weight of each constituent multiplied by its return over each horizon gives the basket return for that horizon.
Ahead of launch this is a live gauge of what today's provisional basket has done, not an index level or a chained series across reconstitutions. A base level of 1000 will be set on the launch date. The rules are open: the constituent CSV includes both raw and capped weights, and the universe CSV records exactly which screen each excluded coin failed.
